Hot weather is fast approaching this summer. It is essential to keep in mind that summer heat can cause some serious health risks if we are not careful. Construction workers are often working under the sun all day long. For those of you who will have their team working under the blazing sun, it is crucial to keep in mind a few critical tips to avoid health-related issues.

Stay protected and follow these tips:

  1. Stay Hydrated

Make sure you are drinking water all day. It is suggested to drink water every 15 minutes. Keep water near at all times, and keep it fresh. Make sure to drink water often do not wait until you are thirsty. Staying hydrated is vital to prevent a heat stroke. Stay away from energy drinks or sodas. Drink electrolyte replacement beverages.

  1. Eat Right

It may seem like you need a lot of food during the day to keep you going this summer. It is recommended to eat light during the hottest time of the day. Big meals and heavier foods can weigh you down and drain your energy. By eating a lighter meal, you will be able to stay alert in the afternoon and will retain energy.

  1. Get Sleep

During the summer of all times, it is more important to get your 8 hours of sleep. It is harder to get deep sleep during warm months. Make sure to sleep in a relaxing and dark environment to prevent drowsiness and accidents.

  1. Avoid Air Conditioning

Going in and out of places with air conditioning will make it harder for you to adjust to the heat. Try not to go in and out of air-conditioned areas as much.

  1. Look Out for Heat Stress

You need to take care of yourself but also keep an eye on your coworkers. The signs related to a heat stroke are hot skin without sweating, loss of consciousness, heat cramps, and mental confusion. Call 911 if anyone shows these signs.
